Monsters win: Gallant, Paliotta, Sifers, Pratt

Brett Gallant is a champion.

A couple of years after he made it to the Show, two months after a petrifying health scare, Brett Gallant has won the Calder Cup.

He wasn’t dressed tonight, but hey. Oliver Bjorkstrand scored from an impossible angle on a ricocheting puck as time ticked away in the first overtime in Game 4, and in front of 19.665 fans, Lake Erie finished a sweep with a 1-0 win over Hershey. Both Anton Forsberg and Justin Peters made ridiculous saves, but Bjorkstrand became the 11th man to score two overtime goals in one series, and they were huge ones, Games 3 and 4 in the Final.

So that’s a title for Gallant, for former Beast of New Haven defenseman Nolan Pratt as an assistant coach, for Mike Paliotta of Westport, and for veteran Jaime Sifers of Stratford, who blocked an open-net shot from Riley Barber with under seven minutes left in the second period.

(Covered Sifers when he was a sophomore at Fairfield Prep. He’s been through a lot to get here, too.)

Grabbed screencaps of Gallant, Sifers (who took the first handoff from Ryan Craig) and Paliotta, as well as one from the handshake line: That’s Gallant behind Anton Forsberg, getting a big hug from his ol’ captain.

…..

Other notes:

The Islanders announced that their kiddie-camp Blue-White Game will be June 29, just four days after the end of the draft.

Enfield’s Robbie Baillargeon left BU for Arizona State. The weather will be a lot tougher.

Jeff Tambellini is going back overseas.

And the new season is four months away.
